Car 7 is “The Suite,” an exceptionally rare accommodation worldwide: the entire car serves as a single private room.
Car No. 7 is a full suite. It features a private entrance, a private balcony, a living and dining area, a bedroom, and a bathroom with a bathtub. “The Suite” occupies approximately 35 square meters and is the only one of its kind in the train.
The ten-car train has sixteen guest rooms, accommodating thirty-four guests. Cars No. 1 and No. 10 are observation cars with open viewing platforms at the rear of the train. The windows in the guest rooms can also be opened.
The train connects Kyoto Station and Shimonoseki Station, following either the San’in Main Line or the Sanyō Main Line. Four one-night, two-day routes are available, as well as one circular route lasting two nights and three days. Each itinerary includes time to disembark and explore local attractions once per day. Destinations include Onsenji Temple in Kinosaki Onsen, Shōka Sonjuku in Hagi, and the Amarube Viaduct overlooking the Sea of Japan.
Applications are accepted by lottery, not on a first-come, first-served basis.
The suite occupies an entire carriage. It is the only room on this train where you can enjoy the view from the window while taking a bath.

The only cabin on the train accessible to guests in a wheelchair. The view from the corridor side is more limited.
This is the only room available for single occupancy. Royal Twin rooms are not available for single use.
The train’s cuisine is curated by culinary critic Takeshi Kadokami, with dishes prepared by a team of chefs. In the 2026 season, Japanese cuisine is represented by Yoshihiro Murata from the Kyoto restaurant "Kikunoi," while Western cuisine is overseen by Hajime Yoneda from the Osaka restaurant "HAJIME."
Special attention is given to dishes from local chefs, which change depending on the route: Toru Fujimori from Tottori’s "FÉE DES NEIGES" on the outbound San’in route; Yuki Mitsui from "Mitsuki" on the return San’in route; Kentaro Kato from Okayama’s "Chinese Cuisine Hasunomi" on the outbound Biwa/Setouchi route; Junichi Ueno from "Anagomeshi Ueno" and Waza Ichiyama from "Biwa collage" on the return route.
Dishes are prepared in the open kitchen of the "DINER PLEIADES" restaurant car in car six. Guests may enjoy lunch and dinner either in the restaurant or in their suites—seating is not fixed in advance. All beverages, including alcoholic drinks, are included in the journey’s price.
The lineup of chefs and their assigned routes may change each season. Information is current as of 2026.
Applications are accepted by lottery rather than on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of four people and two rooms per application. You may select the room type, but cannot specify the carriage or room number. Applications are accepted during periods set by the management company; for departures from March to June of the following year, applications open at the beginning of September of the current year.
Dress code: semi-formal attire is required for dinner and visiting the pub; smart casual is required for the Mizukaze Lounge and public areas on board. Casual clothing is permitted for excursion programs. Smoking is allowed only in the smoking room of the lounge car in carriage 5. Cancellation fees apply starting twenty days before the departure date.
