Volcanic island Rishiri, flower island Rebun, and Japan’s northernmost cape Soya
- Duration: 3 days, 2 nights (departure from Tokyo and return to Tokyo)
- Price: On request
- Departure: Departure and arrival at Tokyo hotels
Overview
Rishiri–Rebun–Sarobetsu National Park is Japan’s northernmost national park. The volcanic island of Rishiri rises majestically from the sea, while Rebun, known as the “Island of Flowers,” is covered with alpine plants that bloom almost at the water’s edge. This is one of Japan’s most remote and pristine landscapes, where nature remains remarkably untouched.
Over three days, travel through Japan’s northern frontier with a private driver and guide. Circle the majestic 1,721-meter peak of Rishiri Fuji, walk scenic trails among alpine flowers on Rebun Island, drive along the famous White Road paved with scallop shells, and visit Cape Soya, the northernmost point of Hokkaido. Between Rishiri and Rebun, enjoy first-class ferry crossings.
Route: Tokyo → Sapporo (Atama Daibutsu) → Rishiri Island → Rebun Island → Wakkanai / Cape Soya → Tokyo.
Key Features
- Buddha Hill — Opened in 2015, this place of worship was designed by Tadao Ando. The Buddha statue is surrounded by an artificial hill covered with 150,000 lavender bushes.
- Rishiri Fuji — This peak rises majestically above the sea (1,721 meters). Its shape has earned it the name "Rishiri Fuji," and it is included in the list of Japan's 100 famous mountains.
- Otatomari Marsh — A picturesque spot symbolizing the island. On clear days, Mount Rishiri Fuji is reflected on the water’s surface. Well-maintained walking paths surround the area.
- Rebun Island — The northernmost inhabited island of Japan. Known as the "floating island of flowers": nearly 300 species of alpine plants bloom here by the sea, including endemics such as Atsumoriso and Usuyukiso.
- Cape Soya — The northernmost point of Hokkaido’s main island. Marked by the “Monument of Japan’s Northernmost Point” in the shape of the North Star, it offers views of Sakhalin, located 43 km away, on clear days.
- White Road — A 3 km walking trail runs through the hills of Soya. Its white surface, paved with crushed scallop shells, stands out strikingly against the green pastures and the blue sea.
