Strolling through Okayama, one realizes that the Edo era has been preserved here not as frozen history, but as a multitude of layers of time.

Korakuen Garden was created by several generations of Okayama domain rulers and gradually acquired its present appearance. Across the river rises Okayama Castle—the famous "Crow Castle," whose black silhouette has defined the cityscape for over four centuries.

In Kurashiki, history reveals itself differently. White-walled warehouses and a tranquil canal recall the days when the city flourished as an important trading center of the shogunate. It was here that the Ohara Museum appeared—the first private museum of Western art in Japan, where works by Monet, El Greco, and Gauguin found their place far from the capitals.

This story is completed by Bizen ceramics, which for nearly a thousand years has been crafted from local clay without glaze, allowing the fire itself to leave its unique mark.
