About Us

MA JAPAN is a club of curated journeys through Japan, founded by Tatiana Wada, creator of the travel company VOYAGEJAPAN and curator of cultural itineraries across the country.

Tatiana also leads the media project BUTAI — stories of personal encounters with Japan’s artisans and artists.

MA JAPAN grew out of more than twenty years of VOYAGEJAPAN’s experience and a particular approach to travel, one that has always placed people and culture at its centre.

We live in Japan, travel widely through its regions and continue to discover the country through art, architecture, craft, local traditions and personal acquaintance. We are drawn not only to the well-known cultural centres, but also to small workshops, private collections, independent galleries and places that rarely appear on the usual travel routes.

Long-standing relationships with artists, master craftspeople and members of the cultural community allow us to arrange meetings and visits that usually lie beyond the reach of a standard journey.

Every MA JAPAN journey is created as an individual, authored project — Japan beyond the familiar tourist gaze.
